Midland Area Housing Association is a Registered Social Landlord (RSL) and a ‘not for profit’ organisation. It was first formed in 1967, with help from Shelter, the national homeless charity, and has grown steadily since, with now 3,500 general needs properties in management, and around 400 bed spaces in Supported Housing Schemes, managed by specialist agencies.
MAHA has its roots in the communities of North West Birmingham – though a small number of its properties stretch as far as Staffordshire - and is committed to promoting and contributing to the vibrancy and stability of those communities, through all areas of its work.
Until the mid-1980s most of Midland Area Housing Association’s work involved the refurbishment or modernisation of older pre-1914 properties, but all of its housing schemes since then have been purpose built or ‘new build’ – with a vision not only of building homes, but of creating better places to live. Building successful communities is fundamental to this and we have a dedicated team of housing and regeneration professionals who strive to meet these needs.
At the current time, we are also identifying an ambitious programme of maintenance and investment, to bring all our properties up to the Government’s ‘Decent Homes’ Standard.
MAHA, along with Touchstone Housing Association, is a member of the Keynote Group -the largest housing group in the West Midlands, with over 16,000 properties in management, and a growing reputation for working in diverse neighbourhoods through a diverse workforce.
