New Prospect Housing Limited

New Prospect Housing Limited is a non-profit making company which is fully owned by Salford Council but operates independently.
Our homes are owned by the Council but managed by New Prospect. The company operates as a partnership between the Council and council tenants. It is overseen by the Council to ensure it is managing homes effectively. New Prospect has a management structure comprising one Parent board and five local boards. Each of these management boards is made up of equal numbers of tenants and local councillors, with a minority of independent board members.

Why are we managing homes in this way?
The company represents a new way of providing housing services in Salford. The Council has recognised that services to council tenants need to be improved. By forging a partnership with tenants across the city and by making more decisions locally, the new company will be able to develop services that better meet the needs and aspirations of tenants. A further major advantage is that, once services have been improved, the Government will provide additional money for us to repair and improve council housing in Salford.

What will the Council's role be?
The Council still has an important role to play in housing in Salford, including planning the housing strategy for the City and looking after private sector housing in Salford.
The Council sets rents and service charge levels for council tenants. Council tenants can contact their local councillors who will work with New Prospect to resolve any problems.

What services does New Prospect provide?

• Maintenance division
• Salford Property Shop including
  • furnished tenancies and supported tenancies
• Tenant Participation
• The Housing disability team
• Care on Call

New Prospect is committed to providing affordable warmth throughout our homes and we are currently working with our Energy Efficiency Commitment partner, Powergen, to insulate all homes wherever possible. We are also keen to carry out our work with as little environmental impact as possible and are currently undertaking a thorough environmental assessment of our activities.
